Description

We exist because nobody should be held hostage by debt and poverty. In a society where people live behind closed doors, thousands are desperately poor. Unable to feed their children, incapable of paying to heat their homes in winter, the grip of poverty is relentless. It breaks families apart and drives many to think that suicide is the only way out.

Here is a brief overview of the service we provide :

A potential client is assigned a local debt coach. During COVID restrictions support has been given through phone contact but face-to-face home visiting is our preferred way of working with clients.

The debt coach helps to gather information about existing debt and sends this to CAP Head Office for evaluation.
Options for a route out of debt are established and the coach explains the process to the client. Support is given to begin the
journey out of debt.

Contact (phone or visits) by the coach and a befriending volunteer continues and provides opportunity for the development of a supportive, encouraging relationship.

A “Blessing Bag” of quality foods - necessities and treats- is sometimes given on the home visits.

Signposting and support to access Foodbanks or other charities is available.

Our holistic approach to debt counselling looks at all aspects of a family’s situation.

Once the debt coach has taken a client through the initial stages of the process, a Scottish team of caseworkers will work with the client on the journey to becoming debt free. The debt coach will continue to provide support and encouragement as required.
